Reach Lode

Walk Location:

The pretty village of Reach is where the long Anglo-Saxon earthwork - the Devil's Dyke - meets the small canal known as Reach Lode. At the very least, therefore, it offers two options for long, straight walks, though there are other footpaths around the village.

The other thing it offers is The Dyke's End pub, which is a wonderful spot with delicious food. If you park by the green and face the pub, the dyke is to your right and the lode to your left. If you go left, the road becomes a footpath which soon emerges alongside the river. It's sufficiently straight that you can probably see, almost immediately, a bridge about a mile or so away, where you can cross and come back on the other side.
