Around Coton

Walk Location:

There are several places to walk around the village of Coton, which is close to the centre of Cambridge - walking distance, if you're feeling energetic - but is also very easily accessible from the M11.

The Coton Countryside Reserve is gradually opening up more meadows, paths, new wooded areas, and there's also a good sized village green on which to run around, with footpaths and farm tracks connecting the two.

If you approach Coton from the south (e.g. from M11 J12) along Grantchester Road, you will see a parking area on the right. You can park there and explore the footpaths which lead to a meadow with visible remnants of ridge-and-furrow farming, and beyond that to the village green. To the north east of the village green (near the footpath that leads into Cambridge) is a small area of new woodland.

The Reserve's footpaths also extend on the other side of Grantchester Rd. Worth exploring.

An alternative is to park at the village green and walk back towards the reserve. To do this, go into the centre of the village and, near The Plough pub (also recommended), take the road called The Footpath, which leads alongside the green - there's a parking area on the right in the middle of the green. There's a gap in the hedge on the opposite side of the green (furthest from the pub) and a path the other side of it.
